At 5:30am in the morning in New York all the bad people have gone to bed, and all the good people aren’t up yet. When I worked in the East Village. I lived on MacDougal Street. After I had everything closed up, I would often stroll through the city from the east side to the west side.
It is the closest I ever feel in New York to it just being mine. This is my time. You don't see anyone else around and you see so much. You can sit down on the steps of a church for a minute and realize that you never noticed it before. You can go anywhere you want at that time.
I stop into the Waverly Diner for eggs, bacon, and home fries (because no one does hash browns in New York). I don’t understand why no one does hash browns on the East Coast.
