The Hour Shop

Vintage barware shop. They also sell new glassware and bar items, such as trays, coasters, napkins, cocktail picks, whisky stones and large ice cube molds, but most of the items in the collection date from the 1920s to the 1970s and, for the most part, were made in the U.S. by companies that no longer exist.

"If you're willing to venture out to Alexandria, Virginia, you'll be rewarded by this well-curated vintage glassware and cocktail gear store. One of the best in the country."  - Barman Derek Brown of The Passenger, Mockingbird Hill, Eat The Rich

"Whenever bartenders come here to Alexandria, I always send them here. It is the coolest vintage cocktail shop around. This lady named Victoria has basically scoured antique stores for shakers and antique glassware. It's kind of an ode to a bar and definitely one of the coolest shops I've ever been to in my life. It's good and bad, because you end up going in, getting totally sucked in and spending a ton of money!" - Bartender Todd Thrasher of PX, Good Food Group

"They carry a remarkable collection of gorgeous vintage glassware."  - Bartender Adam Bernbach of 2 Birds 1 Stone, Proof, Estadio, Doi Moi)

Round Robin & Scotch Bar

Located just off the lobby of The Willard InterContinental, imbibe where Mark Twain, Walt Whitman and many politicos have had a dram or two.

"An old school bar with an angry bartender named Jim Hewes. He makes the best Mint Julep you've ever had in your life. It's just amazing. He's like the old kind of bartender, cranky, but has so many good stories to tell. He has a scotch collection like no other. There are three to four hundred scotches in this bar." - Bartender Todd Thrasher of PX, Good Food Group

"Great Scotch program helmed by legendary bartender Jim Hewes. This is exceptional politico people watching." - Barman Derek Brown of The Passenger, Mockingbird Hill, Eat The Rich

2Amys Pizzeria

Members of the D.O.C (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) status which means that their pizzas have to abide by strict requirements and are made in the traditional Neapolitan way in a wood-burning oven.

"This is great for pizza. They do an excellent job. There aren't many places that have received the D.O.C. (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) from the Italian government." - Chef José Andrés of ThinkFoodGroup

"It’s a Neapolitan style pizzeria, but they also do a pretty amazing array of antipasti and charcuterie. It's really fantastic food. They have the antipasti dishes just sitting out on platters, or little towers. It’s the type of food that cooks want to eat, little crostinis with beans, pecorino and mint or caramelized cauliflower with a little bit of chili, olive oil and lemon. It’s nothing pretentious. It’s very honest and always delicious."  - Chef Haidar Karoum of Doi Moi, Estadio, Proof

Komi

Chef Johnny Monis serves a set multi-course tasting dinner for $135 per person that will dazzle your senses. Monis uses his Greek background for inspiration. Leave your camera at home, there are no photos allowed during the dinner.

"I really like Komi; it is one of the top restaurants in the country. It is run by a young chef who sticks to what he thinks and has great touches for where he comes from. It is very nice modern cooking, very solid. It is a great, great place." Chef José Andrés of ThinkFoodGroup

LATE NIGHT

Neighborhood restaurant, bakery, coffee shop and wine bar all rolled into one place with outdoor seating.

"Just a great neighborhood place. They have a great coffee program, great pastries, and it’s also a great bar. They make wonderful cocktails, very simple, very unpretentious. It’s a very comfortable place and you can have a great time here." - Bartender Adam Bernbach of 2 Birds 1 Stone, Proof, Estadio, Doi Moi

Mockingbird Hill

Owner and barman Derek Brown modeled this after the small sherry bars he loved in the south of Spain. But this is not your Disney-version of Southern Spain replete with bull statues and flamenco fans. Here the soundtrack is punk and the mission is to demystify sherry.

"Come here and visit bartender Chantal Tseng, she is really great." Bartender Adam Bernbach of 2 Birds 1 Stone, Proof, Estadio, Doi Moi

Cirrus Vodka

Bartender Todd Thrasher likes this hand-crafted, small batch potato-based vodka from Virginia. He says it has flavor, it is not that crystal clear clean vodka. It has a little bit of viscosity and he enjoys using it for cocktails.
