Located in East London, barman Paul Tvaroh's subterranean Shoreditch cocktail bar has mod furniture and mad drinks. He is creating theater with his whimsical cocktails. Expect the unexpected, like Campari cotton candy served atop a vintage Campari soda bottle; Havana Club rum infused with a Romeo and Julieta #2 cigar, vanilla and orange bitters and poured from a Cuban cigar holder; and a tin of caviar which is actually tiny beads of vodka, chocolate and a dark ale. If you reserve the tasting menu ahead of time, then Paul will take you on a wild ride. He changes the tasting menu seasonally, but this is version of a "Walk Through The Woods." Things are not what they appear to be.
It feels like you are getting cocktails in an Eastern European mid-century bunker.
The menu book offers classic cocktails and Paul's creative twists on classics as well as wonderful experiments.
The cocktail ride starts with a cocoon which you drop into a honey pot and a butterfly comes to life. Which is apple vodka, cider, elderflower & rose liqueur.
What looks like tree sap is also a cocktail made with rosemary vodka, spruce eau de vie, birch water, maple syrup and honey.
The vibe and furniture is mid-century.
In the morning woods there are dew drops on the tree's leaves. These are basil-infused gin.
The sweet fruit is meant to resemble large blueberries - made with whiskey, liquid smoke & blueberry.
Flowers and worms rise from the dirt. Made with peated whiskey, mezcal, malt and dirt scent.
A porcini mushroom is actually a chocolate-based cocktail with savory notes added.
At end of the tour, the evening's menu is presented, printed on a wood paper with cocktail truffle dollops - one is vanilla vodka and the other is chocolate liqueur and dark beer.
Life renewed with pine smoke -- a full woodsy experience.
