BARISTA PARLOR
This coffee shop ticks off lots of the cool quotient boxes. The locations are in large, airy, renovated spaces all with their own history. One was an auto repair shop, another a recording studio in the 1960s, and the third a former drum supply house. Dan Aurebach of the Black Keys is an investor and there is a turntable spinning vinyl in the corner. Most importantly, you can get a well-crafted coffee and a hot, flakey breakfast biscuit.

GOO GOO SHOP
They have been making the iconic Goo Goo Cluster since 1912. It's a round-shaped candy bar with marshmallow, caramel, and roasted peanuts covered in milk chocolate. Chef Bryan Lee Weaver (Butcher & Bee) describes the shop as a real life Willy Wonka Factory.

OLIVE & SINCLAIR
Scott Witherow worked as a chef at restaurants like the Fat Duck and Nobu in London and Alinea in Chicago before becoming a bean-to-bar chocolate maker. Chef Matt Bolus (404 Kitchen) recommends buying the "chocuterie" -- a dessert made to look like a cured sausage. It has mold on the outside (string and powdered sugar) and bits of fat on the inside (white chocolate and marshmallow). Their factory and shop is located in an converted 1900s grocery store.

Opened by childhood friends Darek Bell and Andrew Webber, they create unique craft spirits such as gin, triple smoke whiskey, quinoa whiskey, and rye-mageddon as well as seasonal and more experimental creations like Old Punk and Amarillo. First thing to know is that it's not easy to find. Plan on walking by it a few times because the exterior looks like an apartment house. Inside, the center of the room is a square wooden bar surrounded by black, padded leather stools. It's the kind of place where you want to smoke a cigar and talk about the stock market.
